Aurélie Jocelyne Tiffy, whose real name is Toh Grah Aurélie Jocelyne Juliette, is a young Ivorian woman born in 1996 in Aboisso, Ivory Coast. She grew up in Ayamé, a village located 136 km from Abidjan. In 2015, Aurélie Jocelyne Tiffy obtained a diploma in accounting management and became passionate about artistic photography and audiovisual production. She then decided to continue her studies at the School of Multimedia Specialists of Abidjan (ESMA) in visual communication where she obtained the higher technician’s diploma option visual communication in 2017. In January 2019, she obtained a diploma of graphic designer in post-production within the same school (ESMA).
Aurélie Jocelyne Tiffy was inspired and influenced by the Ivorian photographer Ly La Gazelle, who would later become her mentor. Seduced by the great freedom that photography offers, she explores the expressive potential of this medium. She chooses black and white photography to show the daily life she perceives and to capture the moral qualities of the people. In her images, through the models she photographs, she shows courage, determination and the difficulties of life. Beyond their image, Aurélie Jocelyne captures their sensitivity.
In May 2018, she exhibited for the first time, during the 13th DAK’ART Biennale in Senegal, in OFF with the African Federation of Photographic Art (FAAP) & Bind, contemporary images bringing together more than 25 nationalities. Back in Abidjan, to enrich her training and develop her knowledge in photography, she attended a Masterclass offered by the Donwahi Foundation in collaboration with the photographer Aida Muluneh. This great photographer changed the way Aurélie Tiffy looked at Africa. Following these courses, she asserts herself as a photographer and initiates projects. Her first exhibition will take place in 2019 at the African Biennial of Photography « Les rencontres de la photographie de Bamako ». She will then be exhibited in 2020 at the Donwahi Foundation.
